SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

The University of Cambodia is committed to building a tradition of inspiring students to think beyond simplicity and to view learning as an adventure where they can discover, create and contribute to knowledge development in their respective fields and help the community. The University of Cambodia Scholarship Program offers qualified students the opportunity to study in an academic institution that focuses on quality teaching, research and scholarship.

There are three different categories of undergraduate Scholarship:
  • Academic Excellence Scholarships;
  • Scholastic Aptitude Scholarships; and
  • Partial Scholarships.
These are awarded to full-time Bachelor’s students each academic year. Qualification is based primarily on academic promise and financial need: the awards are based on merit, not favour. Because being awarded a Scholarship is an academic distinction, indicative of the student\'s potential calibre, this will be recorded in all academic transcripts.
However, the strong competition for limited places means that there are certain conditions which the students must meet in order to continue receiving a Scholarship: they cannot become complacent. All scholarship recipients will be reviewed at the end of each term before funding is renewed. Depending on the Scholarship involved (and the prestige of the award), they must:
  1. exceed a certain minimal attendance in all classes;
  2. maintain a certain minimal grade point average (GPA) for each term;
  3. observe all rules and regulations of the University, including respect of the Student Code of Conduct;
  4. participate in University’s activities, such as conferences, seminars, meetings, etc., from time to time; and
  5. be willing to volunteer time or participate in the internship program of the University.
Any student who, having been awarded a Scholarship, subsequently fails to live up to the expectations embodied in the above five requirements (most especially the first two) will automatically and immediately have their Scholarship discontinued: they will have to start paying full tuition fees if they want to continue their studies at the University of Cambodia. This lapse will also be recorded in their transcripts.

Thereafter, however, if a student can attain a suitable cumulative GPA score, and also meet the minimum attendance requirement, during their subsequent period at the University, then there is the possibility that they will be able to resume receiving a Scholarship.

For application deadlines, procedures and forms, inquire at the Office of Admissions and Registration. Since competition is stiff for these scholarships, students are encouraged to begin the application procedure early.

i. Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES)

These are intended only for outstanding, highly-qualified students. Students who meet the University\'s  stringent criteria, based on merit rather than favour, will be awarded one of a range of Scholarships and  thereby receive full tuition benefits. The following Academic Excellence Scholarships may be awarded to suitably-qualified students:
  • Prime Minister Hun Sen Scholarship Program
  • Board of Trustees Scholarships
  • Cambodian Leadership Scholars Program
  • Chancellor’s Honors Scholarship Fund
  • Presidential Scholarships
However, accepting such a Scholarship means that a student must perform up to expectations for the award to be continued over successive terms: it must not be regarded merely as a meaningless accolade, so that the recipients become complacent. Thus, to continue receiving their awards, all students originally considered to have sufficient merit for an AES must:
  1. have 90% attendance in all classes;
  2. maintain at least a GPA of 3.0 or B for each term;
  3. observe all rules and regulations of the University, including respect of the Student Code of Conduct;
  4. participate in University’s activities, such as conferences, seminars, meetings, etc., from time to time; and
  5. be willing to volunteer time or participate in the internship program of the University.
Note that the various Scholarships may differ in their detailed requirements, but they  are all awarded only to students with the potential for academic excellence; and they will be withdrawn from students who fail to live up to these high expectations.

ii. Scholastic Aptitude Scholarships

These are for students who did well in school; who are from families that cannot afford their continuing education; and who are fully committed to learning and furthering themselves. These Scholarships cover 50% of the tuition.
There are certain conditions which the students must meet in order to continue receiving a Scholastic Aptitude Scholarship. They must
  1. have 80% attendance in all classes;
  2. maintain at least a GPA of 2.5 or C+ for each term;
  3. observe all rules and regulations of the University, including respect of the Student Code of Conduct;
  4. participate in University’s activities, such as conferences, seminars, meetings, etc., from time to time; and
  5. be willing to volunteer time or participate in the internship program of the University

iii. Partial Scholarships

These are provided to students who are fully committed to their studies but are unable to pay for their tuition in full: they are awarded to students based on an evaluation of each individual\'s personal situation, as assessed by the UC Scholarship Committee.
There are certain conditions which the students must meet in order to continue receiving a Partial Scholarship. They must:
  1. have 70% attendance in all classes;
  2. maintain at least a GPA of 2.0 or C for each term;
  3. observe all rules and regulations of the University, including respect of the Student Code of Conduct;
  4. participate in Universe\'s actives, such as conferences, seminars, meeting , etc.., from time to times. and
  5. be will to volunteer time or participate in the internship program of the University.
