ASEAN-US Science and Technology Fellows Program

Background:
The ASEAN-U.S. Science and Technology Fellows Program provides an opportunity for scientists to explore opportunities to address key areas of concern to Asia's citizens through science and policy. This program, supported by the United States government, helps early career scientists from ASEAN Member States be more engaged in policies that drive national priorities and affect the lives of citizens in ASEAN.

Eligibility and Submission Deadline:
Up to 16 Fellows will be chosen from across the region to be embedded in a government ministry in their home country to advance science-based decision-making in one of three priority areas: biodiversity, clean energy, and fisheries and coastal management. The Call for Application for the second year of the Program has been released, with deadline for submission is on January 18, 2015. The program will begin on May 1, 2015.


How to Apply:
The program is hoping to hire two Cambodian fellows. The requirements are as follows:

  • all candidates must be a citizen of an ASEAN Member State and possess a valid passport;
  • all candidates must hold a PhD in a science or technology-related field;
  • all candidates must have 3 years of employment experience in a research setting;
  • all candidates must be under the age of 45;
  • all candidates must not be currently employed by the government;
  • all candidates must demonstrate fluency in English;
  • and all candidates must support the fellowship goals.

The 2015 fellowship program aims to focus on the following areas:

  • Biodiversity – identification, conservation and value creation.
  • Energy Security – efficient clean energy and energy resources.
  • Fisheries and Costal Management – monitoring, climate change application, conservation standards, and zoning.

To apply all candidates must compile an application packet including the following items:

  • CV;
  • 3 letters of recommendation;
  • and a statement of purpose.
