Vision

The College of Media and Communications aims to provide a high standard of theoretical and practical training in modern mass media, in the context of a broader education in current affairs and related fields as part of a number of different Bachelor’s programmes. It is for those who are already involved in field directly related to the media or in ancillary area (e.g. public relations, education), or who wish to start on the road to a career in them.

This, together with the offering of short courses and other professional, non-degree programmes, will benefit from access to the facilities and expertise of SEATV, SEA Radio and the Southeast Asia Weekly, which are based in a building next to the University of Cambodia (UC).

The College will also fulfill an additional essential role: to conduct researches in Cambodia on relevant topics in order to not only enrich the course material through practical examples in a local context, but also for broader dissemination to inform society’s current leaders and other interested parties.

Mission

Today’s fast-changing environment, with the increasing sophistication, regionalization and globalization of the mass media and the rapid evolution of the social media, places new and constantly evolving demands on those who are directly involved, need to be aware of these developments in order to better fulfill their respective duties and communicate synergistically with those who are expected to implement their ideas.

Thus, the College will prepare its students to be productive, creative and responsible global citizens with the personal theoretical and practical tools and the professionalism needed to pursue meaningful careers and do services for the benefit of the community at large and promote Cambodia’s standing on the regional and world stages.

In addition, the College will run short courses and executive programmes in order to encourage life-long learning and provide an avenue for those with or without degrees in other fields to expand their horizons and thus the range of job opportunities open to them.

The College will also encourage interdisciplinary research by its faculty and students with other Colleges in UC and outside collaborators, for their mutual benefit. The promotion of the results of such studies will benefit other stakeholders in Cambodia, in both the public and private sectors; as well as helping to promote UC as a centre for research excellence.

All of the above will be achieved by developing the College as a centre of teaching excellence through the encouraging logical and critical thinking, including by adapting and applying emerging technologies and approaches to enhance less formalized, more interactive classroom instruction.
