Promoting Road Safety to University of Cambodia Students Safety First!

In the morning on December 9th, 2015, the Cambodian Red Cross and the University of Cambodia Cambodian Red Cross Youth co-organized the Road Safety Campaign targeted at University of Cambodia Students. The event detailed the enforcement of the new 2016 traffic laws, and the affects of traffic accidents in Cambodia. Presenters included Mr. Khem Sophal, Head of Road Safety Projects and Youth, Mr. Roeurt Sokhon, Cambodian Red Cross Delegate, and Mr. An Sopheak, Ms. Kong Rathana, and Mr. Ban Bunheng, Advisors to the University of Cambodia Cambodian Red Cross Youth club. The aim of the event was to raise awareness about traffic laws in an effort to reduce and avoid future accidents. Additionally, the event sought to contribute to the preservation of private and public resources, especially the valuable human resources for the national development of Cambodia.

Mr. An Sopheak, Advisor to the University of Cambodia Cambodian Red Cross Youth (UCCRCY), and representative of H.E Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Honorary President of UCCRCY, and Co-Founder and Presi-dent of the University of Cambodia, gave his warm welcoming remarks.

Mr. Khem Sophal, Head of Road Safety Projects and Youth, gave a presentation on the general traffic situation in Cambodia, new traffic law enforcement, and monthly data of traffic accident victims. Additionally, he shared a short video about the loss of a child due to a traffic accident. The presentation was concluded with a question and answer session for the students.

Before end the program, the University of Cambodia Cambodian Red Cross Youth club showed a short educational video-clip to remind students to respect all traffic laws to protect their own lives, as well as the lives of others who are traveling on the same street. The video was written and created by University of Cambodia students. UCCRCY club also designed a photo booth where students took fun pictures related to the awareness of road safety for publishing on social networks like Facebook.

Mr. An Sopheak closed the meeting by giving a message to all students to be aware of and follow all traffic laws.
