Journal of Cambodian Studies

The Journal of Cambodian Studies (JCS) is a bi-annual interdisciplinary journal.  Publications are in March and September of each calendar year.  It serves as a forum for scholars, researchers and writers to share common interests around matters related to Cambodia and Southeast Asia.  The Journal invites manuscripts from multiple disciplines for review.

JCS’s primary objective is to advance research and promote knowledge-sharing across disciplines.  It aims to discern quality information stemming from practical wisdom and empirical research, and then impart academic and public policy knowledge to a wide audience.  That audience ranges from academicians, policymakers, executives and managers, civil servants, and the general public, in Cambodia and abroad.  Irrespective of their profession, readers will enjoy the freedom and flexibility to make sound critical judgments and analyses about historical facts and contemporary issues relevant to this part of the world.

The Journal accepts manuscripts from broad areas:

  • Research

  • Practice

  • Public Policy

  • Program Evaluation

  • Political Science

  • Economics

Submission Guidelines

Authors must follow the APA style (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, 2009). Manuscripts must run between 20 and 40 pages (excluding references and appendices), double spaced, 12-point font, 1 inch margins on all sides, typed for A4 sized paper. Manuscripts should be submitted in MS Word, WordPerfect or RTF format.  The Journal does not accept PDFs.

Text should be written clearly for a broad readership, but it must also be concise:  any additional, descriptive or explanatory passages (to provide background information to aid understanding) should appear as part of the footnotes, designated by numeric superscripts, to maintain the flow of text.

  • Positive whole numbers up to and including ten should be spelled out, and commas should be used to demarcate multiples of a thousand (e.g. 1,000,000)

  • Dates should be written as 5 September, 1990; 1994-1998; the 1990s; the 19th century.

  • Long quotations of more than one line should be indented and single-spaced without quotes (with due accreditation); however, excessive block quotes – exceeding five lines – will not normally be entertained. Exceptions may include document excerpts which are the subject of subsequent analysis. However, choice of excerpts should be parsimonious.

Contact Information
Provide all relevant contact information (for each author) on a separate title page.  That page should consist of the following:

  • Names of author(s)

  • Affiliation of author(s)

  • Mailing address of contact person(s)

  • E-mail address of contact person(s)

  • Fax and daytime phone number(s)

 Author identification
Names of the author(s) should only be indicated on the title page.  No clues as to author identity should be indicated outside of the title page.  Footnotes that explicitly identify the author(s) or institutional affiliation should be placed on a separate page(s).  This supports anonymity in the review process.

Timeframe for Submission

Publications are in March and September.  Deadlines for journal manuscripts will be made available with each “Request for Submission.”  As a general rule, manuscripts should be submitted no later than one month prior to the deadline.

 Abstract
Author(s) are required to submit an abstract of no longer than 150 words.  The abstract should follow APA style, and should be placed on a separate page, following the title page.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be typed on a separate sheet and attached at the end of the manuscript (after the references). Final electronic versions of both tables and figures must be high-quality and camera-ready.

Multiple Submissions

Once manuscripts have been submitted to JCS for review, they are not allowed to be submitted elsewhere.  Manuscripts may be subject to disqualification should this occur.  However, authors can submit to other journals once a final decision has been weighed by the editors of the JCS.  Authors may choose to retract submissions through a formal request prior to but not following final publication acceptance and agreement.  All materials belong to the JCS and its affiliate, the University of Cambodia, once they have been submitted for review. Submitted manuscripts and/or supplemental materials will not be returned to authors, once the review process has been completed.

Authors are encouraged to submit more than one manuscript for review at a time to the Journal of Cambodian Studies.
