UC Bulletin Internship

Applications must be submitted by August 1st, 2014.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The position with The UC Bulletin is a 6-month, non-paid internship for students who want to further their education and gain experience in writing and communications.

The internship is open to students of any major who can demonstrate a proficiency in English writing. You should possess an eagerness to learn and must be willing to be creative and think of new ideas. You will be expected to adhere to all deadlines assigned by the editor and meet with the editor for one hour per week during a time agreed upon prior to the start of the internship.

Upon completion of the internship, you will be provided with a formal recommendation from UC.

SCOPE

As an intern, you will work directly with the UC Bulletin editor, writing 1-2 articles per month and learning how to use publishing programs such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

QUALIFICATION

UC Student. To apply, please submit the following to Ms. Samantha Smith:

-          Resume (no more than one-page)

-          A one-page cover letter introducing yourself and explaining why you want to be a UCB intern

-          Personal piece of writing that demonstrates your best qualities as a writer. This can be a class assignment or something you have written in your free time.

-          A list of 5-10 story ideas for The UC Bulletin. (Story ideas can include events, student issues, current event issues or other ideas that you think would inform contribute to the understanding of life at UC.) 

Skills to Learn:

-          Interviewing techniques.

-          Reporting basics.

-          Increased composition abilities.

-          Edit a photo in Adobe Photoshop for print and online

-          Create a one-page layout in Adobe InDesign

o   Place headlines, text and photos

o   Design basics

o   Create an “extra” – column, pulled quote, graphic

Report line:

UC Bulletin Internship is required to report to UC Bulletin Editor, Ms. Samantha Smith.
