The Cambodia Weekly, the new English language national weekly newspaper, was formally launched on January 30th. The Cambodia Weekly is a color, tabloid-sized newspaper published on Sundays. Major sections of weekly coverage include business, education, science and technology, arts and culture and sports.

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, President of The University of Cambodia, also was present to welcome all the guests.

Small Business Management students put together a remarkable show

The Small Business Management class presented the second edition of UC entertainment show on Jan. 7th. The students put up a beautiful four-hour show. UC Vice President Dr. Angus Munro attended the function and gave an encouraging speech.  All the performers did a great job. The climax of the show was the Fashion Show which was presented in a splendid manner. UC appreciates the efforts put in by the students and College Coordinator Ms. Lopez Gina.

Scholarships by Mr. Paul W. Heng

Mr Paul W. Heng, President of the Unigen Corporation, has contributed financial support for ten scholarships at the University of Cambodia. The scholarships are for undergraduate and open only to new students who will attend UC for the first time. The scholarships are made available for students who will start the new term in February.

UC appreciates this generous contribution which shall benefit the Cambodian students.

Dr. Handa Fund for the Victims of the Khmer Rouge Genocide

As part of Dr. Handa Compensation and Memorial Fund for the Victims of the Khmer Rouge Genocide, on January 30th, a total of 1,000 families who were the victims of the KR genocide (and today they are very poor) received US$100 for each family in Srok Batheay, Kampong Cham province. The distribution-of-fund- event was presided by H.E. Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the accompaniment of Dr. Haruhisa Handa, Leader of World Mate and Chancellor of the University of Cambodia, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, President of the University of Cambodia and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, among other distinguished guests.

The Dr. Handa Fund is named after its principle donor, the Japanese philanthropist Dr. Haruhisa Handa whose pen-name is Toshu Fukami. The Dr. Handa Fund is a “symbolic gesture,” with the aim to console and support families who faced economical, psychological, and physical distress during the Khmer Rouge era.
