Wishes for Khmer New Year Khmer New Year is just round the corner. On this occasion U.C. would like to wish everyone, including its students, faculty, staff and supporters, a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
U.C. student represents Cambodia in ASEF Program in Paris
U.C. student Ms. Chak
Sopheap represented Cambodia in the ASEF UNIVERSITY program
organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and Institut d’Etudes
Politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po) ,in Paris. Forty students from
twenty eight countries participated in this two-week conference
focusing on the concept of LIBERTY, SECURITY & GLOBAL ORDER.
U.C. welcomes several important personalities as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series Dr. Christopher Arterton, Dean of George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management, visited U.C. on March 15 to speak about "News, Media and Political Leadership." The lecture was chaired by Dr. Chap Sotharith, Executive Director of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP). It was part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, and was organised by the CICP in collaboration with the University of Cambodia.
Professor Simon Tay , Chairman of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs ,visited U.C. on March 25 and gave a lecture on 'ASEAN Community, Business and Law’. The lecture was chaired by Samdech Norodom Sirivudh, Chairman of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP). It was part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, and was organised by the CICP in collaboration with the University of Cambodia.
Dr. Ezra Vogel , Professor Emeritus at Harvard University, visited U.C. on March 28 and spoke about ''The Present State of Foreign Relations in East Asia''. The lecture was chaired by Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, President of the University of Cambodia. It was part of the Distinguished Lecture Series of U.C.
On March 29, Mr. Fred Schwartz, Founder of the Auschwitz Jewish Center, gave a lecture in U.C. on ''Prevention of Genocide: Creating an International Center to study Cambodia, Rwanda and the Holocaust.'' The lecture was chaired by Dr. Chap Sotharith, Executive Director of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP). It was part of the Distinguished Lecture Series and was organised by the CICP in collaboration with the University of Cambodia.
Featured Faculty Member: Dr. Angus Munro Vice President, Academic Affairs
Dr. Munro, VP Academic Affairs, hails from U.K. but has been living in South East Asia for more than twenty years now. He joined the National University of Singapore as a lecturer and was promoted to Associate Professor of Biology during his service of 18 years.
Besides this, he has been very active in areas of research ranging from fish biology and ecology to aqua culture His publications include 26 papers in international journals, 24 conference papers, and 8 review chapters in books. He has edited two books – Reproductive Seasonality in Teleosts and The Third Asian Fisheries Forum He has also acted as a manuscript referee for various international journals. Further he has been a referee for research grant proposals to the National Environment Research Council (UK).
Dr. Munro earned his PhD. from University College of North Wales (UK), and his B.Sc. Hons. in Zoology from University of St. Andrews (Scotland)
New books added to Toshu Fukami library U.C. would like to thank Dr. Toshu Fukami for the gift of thirteen new books written by him. We would also like to thank Shanghai Academy of Economic Sciences for donating seven books. Brill Publisher also made a valuable gift of seventy six textbooks to the University of Cambodia's Toshu Fukami Library recently. U.C. extends its acknowledgements to all the above for their invaluable contribution.
The Toshu Fukami Library is open to University students and the general public seven days a week.
New FasTrax Period to start The new term period for FasTrax starts on April 4th 2005. The registration begins now, and the University of Cambodia invites all interested students to apply early.
The University of Cambodia started its new academic term, Term II, 2004-2005, in January and it will run until the end of the second week in June. U.C. is pleased with the new enrollment and it wishes to extend a warm welcome to all the new students. Term III will start on Monday June 20.The registration for this new term begins now, and the University of Cambodia invites all interested students to apply early.
