UC Announces the Recipients of the Exel Scholarship Congratulations to Ms. In Sophoan and Mr. Chher Sokleng on being recipients of the 2005 Exel Scholarship. The Exel Scholarship will help fund their undergraduate studies as they pursue their educational dreams at the University of Cambodia. Exel is the number one company in contract logistics and freight management services. Recently, Paul Graham (COO) of Exel visited the University of Cambodia and established a mutual partnership to help students of Cambodia achieve a higher education.
UC Announces the Availability of Two WISER Scholarships The University of Cambodia is pleased to launching of a new scholarship, “Women Involved in Scholarship, Education, and Research” or WISER. The WISER Scholarship supports young Cambodian women to pursue higher education. Recipients will receive full tuition, plus a stipend for books and supplies.
The recipients of this prestigious scholarship will be determined by application, examination, and personal interview. The University is offering two (2) scholarships in the amount of $2050 to help Khmer women expand their educational capacity. The WISER Scholarship aims at giving Khmer women the opportunity to complete their undergraduate studies during the Fall 2005 at the University of Cambodia.

FasTrax Announces Language Lab The Language Lab is complete and ready to be open for students looking to improve their English skills. This state of the art lab will be equipped with many language features such as 20 new computers, a voice recognition program to match Khmer pronunciation to American pronunciation that will enable the students to expand their vocabulary and perfect their English to achieve native speaking quality. In addition, FasTrax has just started this 4th Period with a steady increase of 20% enrolment. FasTrax would also like to welcome all their new lecturers and students. We have four native speakers rotating in and out of each modules working with pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary, and conversational English. Also, we have 13 students who have completed three modules with 80% or higher average and will receive certificate of achievements.
Welcome of New Directors, College Coordinator, Professors, and Faculty U.C. faculty and student body is pleased to have diverse new members join the U.C. family this term. The university would like to send a warm welcome to our new faculty members.
Heng Samnang Director of Students Academic Affairs Mr. Samnang is well known for his work with Yale University, Cambodian Genocide Program. At U. C. he over sees the College of Social Science and is responsible for revamping the students academic curriculum. Mr. Pum Somonyrak who is a lecturer at the Royal University of Phnom Penh will assist Mr. Samnang by handling the Associates and Bachelors students.
Chav Kakda College Coordinator Ms. Chav Kakda has a Masters from Victoria University of Technology. She will be heading the College of Management where she will share her knowledge with the students, while gaining further experience in her career. She hopes to add a gender development component to her work in the future.
Bandol Lim Assistant Director, Institute of Research and Advance Studies Mr. Bandol Lim comes from the US as a researcher exploring “Macroeconomic Policies Impact on Microfinance and Poverty Reduction in Transitional Conflicting Countries.” He will be focusing the impact of Free-Trade on Cambodia’s development to support his Masters Thesis. He will be working with UC on many flexible tasks.

Featured Faculty Member: Ms. Sarran Nuon Sarran received her undergraduate in Marketing, Management, and Sociology from Simmons College, an all women\s college in Boston, Mass USA. She received her masters in Public Administration, specializing in International Development from New York University.
She is the instructor for the English for Business Communication undergraduate course. Sarran has extensive experience in marketing research and has worked in both the private and non-profit sector in the U.S. During her last full time job with the US Department of Education, she was responsible for collecting data on vocation education. As a Cambodian American, she is excited about sharing her knowledge with the students at the University of Cambodia. In addition, she looks forward to learning from the students. This is her first time teaching in Cambodia. Something interesting about Sarann is that before coming to Cambodia she spent six months in Tanzania (east coast of Africa) teaching rural farmers organic farming methods, nutrition and HIV/AIDS.
Seeking Submissions for Journal of Cambodian Studies The University of Cambodia is seeking articles from all disciplines for its "Journal of Cambodian Studies" (JCS). We are also looking for reviews of contemporary books on Cambodia. The JCS is the first scholarly journal in Cambodia to publish research solely on Cambodia. Submissions may come from various areas of academic research, but should be of strong relevance to Cambodia. Submissions from professors, researchers, scholars and graduate students are strongly encouraged. To be considered for inclusion in a future journal, please send an electronic version of your article to Mr. Bandol Lim at bandollim@yahoo.com.
