As a recipient of the Paul W.
Heng-Unigen Scholarship Fund,
Mr. Jonathan Gray will embark on
a new discovery here in Cambodia
and at UC.
Ohio University states, “This
scholarship assists the
University of Cambodia
(especially the Asian Leadership
Center - ALC) with its rapid
(and impressive) expansion and
aids in developing a more robust
relationship between the
University of Cambodia and Ohio
University.”
Mr. Gray is a senior at Ohio
University. His current major is
International Studies with a
concentration in Southeast Asia.
He has been interning for ALC
for the past two months.
When Mr. Gray began his
journey here at UC, it wasn’t
the adjustment of lifestyle he
had to cope with. Rather it was
the ability to familiarize his
surroundings with new
information.
“At the beginning, I didn’t
have many friends to talk to. I
was lonely. But I learned more
about myself. This will help me
in the future. A new change is
always good.”
But once he got the chance to
get to know people,everything
else
|
didn’t seem to bother him.
“The staff here is great.
There are really nice
people
here, especially coming
from
somewhere that is quite
different. It can be lonely
at
times.”
Working here at UC has
given him a different
perspective on how things
are done here in Cambodia.

“Processes done here are
much more different due to
the fact that the society
is
different. It is
hierarchical
here. Not like back in the
U.
S. where your boss is your
friend. Here, your boss is
your boss and that is it.”
