Canadia Bank Offers Scholarships to Management and IT Students

Scholarships, scholarships, scholarships! This is the time of year for many students to consider how much financial aid they will be receiving. Being able to get full scholarships would be a dream come true for many prospective students.

As you become older, you wonder if you will have enough money to continue with your education.

On July 19, 2009, Canadia Bank PLC. introduced a scholarship program that they recently launched. The scholarship is opened to all Cambodian students who come from financially challenged homes, but have excelled in their academic studies.

Students who currently have other types of scholarships do not qualify. “We want to give

everyone an opportunity to go to school without any financial burden,” says Mr. Rey Belaguin, Marketing Manager for Canadia Bank.

Students who currently have other types of scholarships do not qualify. “We want to give everyone an opportunity to go to school without any financial burden,” says Mr. Rey Belaguin, Marketing Manager for Canadia Bank.

The scholarship gives management students, particularly banking and finance students, and IT students the opportunity to gain full scholarships.

With this scholarship, Canadia Bank does not designate which schools student should attend. This is up to the students to decide for themselves. “We are very open-minded. We don’t want to subject the students to a particular school,” states Mr. Belaguin.

For those who worry about Master’s degree, Canadia Bank offers additional opportunities. Mr. Sok Chantha, private banking manager states, “After working with us for one year, you can apply for a full-time scholarship at any school you wish to pursue your Master’s degree.”

“But don’t get discouraged if you are unable to get a full-time scholarship. You can still apply for internships to gain experience or school credit,” added Mr. Chantha.

Many students were pleased to hear about the many different opportunities Canadia Bank has to offer.

“This scholarship is an outreach for students. We are a local company. We are here to stay in Cambodia forever,” states Mr. Belaguin. Canadia Bank hopes to continue with more future projects in the coming years.

However, what might not appeal to some students is the fact that the “Canadia Bank’s Scholarships Programme” is only offered to 3rd and 4th year undergraduates.

Ms. Chea Chakrya, a first year law student, felt that “1st  and 2nd year students cannot test their abilities to get the scholarship. Although I am not a management student, I still found this scholarship to be very good for others. I will tell my friends about this scholarship program.”

Ms. Ieng Chankreusna, a second year finance and banking student added, “Students have a great opportunity. They allow the poor and the capable to apply for the scholarship. The only thing that is bad about the scholarship is that they don’t offer it for all four years of our undergraduate studies.”

“This is our first venture project, if all goes well, we can always make changes for the future,” Mr. Belaguin commented on the concerns of 1st and 2nd year students’ scholarship opportunities.

Although funds for schools are limited, if you do your research, it will come to you. Scholarships are everywhere. It’s like going on a treasure hunt.
