SCHOLARSHIPS AND WORK STUDY PROGRAM
The
University of Cambodia is committed to building a tradition of
inspiring
students to think beyond simplicity and to view learning as an
adventure where
they can discover, create and contribute to knowledge development in
their
respective fields and help the community. The University of Cambodia
Scholarship Program offers qualified students the opportunity to study
in an
academic institution that focuses on quality teaching, research and
scholarship.
There are
three different categories of undergraduate Scholarship:
These are awarded to
full-time Bachelor’s students each
academic year. Qualification is based primarily on academic promise and
financial need: the awards are based on merit, not favour. Because
being awarded a Scholarship is an academic distinction, indicative of
the
student's potential calibre, this will be recorded in all academic
transcripts.
However, the strong
competition
for limited places means that there are certain conditions which the
students
must meet in order to continue receiving a Scholarship: they cannot
become
complacent. All
scholarship recipients will be reviewed at the end of each term before
funding
is renewed. Depending
on the Scholarship involved (and the prestige of
the award), they must:
Any student who, having
been
awarded a Scholarship, subsequently fails to live up to the
expectations
embodied in the above five requirements (most especially the first two)
will
automatically and immediately have their Scholarship discontinued: they
will
have to start paying full tuition fees if they want to continue their
studies
at the University of Cambodia. This lapse will also be recorded in
their
transcripts.
Thereafter, however, if a
student can attain a suitable
cumulative GPA score, and also meet the minimum attendance requirement,
during
their subsequent period at the University, then there is the
possibility that
they will be able to resume receiving a Scholarship.
For
application deadlines, procedures and forms, inquire at the Office of
Admissions and Registration. Since competition is stiff for these
scholarships,
students are encouraged to begin the application procedure early.
i. Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES)
These are intended only
for outstanding, highly-qualified
students. Students who meet the University's stringent criteria, based
on merit
rather than favour, will be awarded one of a range of Scholarships and
thereby
receive full tuition benefits. This will be recorded in their
transcripts.
However, accepting such a
Scholarship means that a student must perform up to expectations for
the award
to be continued over successive terms: it must not be regarded merely
as a
meaningless accolade, so that the recipients become complacent. Thus,
to
continue receiving their awards, all students originally considered to
have
sufficient merit for an AES must:
The
following Academic Excellence Scholarships may be awarded to
suitably-qualified
students:
a. Prime
Minister Hun Sen Scholarship Program
b. Board
of Trustees Scholarships
c. Cambodian
Leadership Scholars Program
d. Chancellor’s
Honors Scholarship Fund
e. Presidential
Scholarships
Note that the various Scholarships may differ in their detailed requirements, but they are all awarded only to students with the potential for academic excellence; and they will be withdrawn from students who fail to live up to these high expectations.
The goal
of the Prime Minister Hun Sen Scholarship Program is to facilitate
access to
higher education for Cambodian students who demonstrate leadership
potential
but are from poor rural backgrounds with financial needs. The program
thus
hopes to increase the number of Cambodian students with a rural

variety of disciplines, at as many levels as possible. In addition to
providing
financial aid to qualified students, this program will also provide
academic
supervision and mentoring, and activities to help recipients stay in
school,
complete their degrees, and achieve their professional goals. In
return,
beneficiaries of this Scholarship Program are required to contribute to
the
development of the University by participating in academic activities

professional meetings) and assisting with the organization of events.
